About Stone Medical, Inc.
Stone Medical, Inc. was founded in 2019 by the President of Swiss Technologies of New England, Shawn Gaskin. Founder and owner of Swiss Technologies since 2001, Shawn’s increased interest in the complexity of medical device manufacturing drove him to create Stone Medical, Inc., a 5,000 square foot, advanced Medical Device Manufacturing Facility.
With a solid foundation provided by Swiss Technologies, which started more than 21 years ago as a traditional Swiss CNC machine shop; we started manufacturing more intricate parts less than 1.25″ diameter—some which are used for medical instruments and devices. Shawn’s desire to expand into the medical device sector of manufacturing lead to Stone’s existence. Focusing on his valuable insight gained through 21 years of experience, his desire to challenge his abilities, and while furthering his machining capabilities is what led to the opening of Stone Medical.
Our state-of-the-art facility was created with organization, cleanliness, and quality in mind. With a quality management system that sustains a dual certification for both ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016, we are confident in our ability to produce high grade medical instruments, components, and devices. All products we manufacture are produced at our facility located in Plainville, Massachusetts; Rest assured knowing all products are 100% Made in the USA.
The Stone Medical Difference
Stone Medical is a Swiss CNC screw machine shop that specializes in medical device manufacturing. With the technological advancements of a multi-axis screw machine, Stone Medical has the ability to produce high quantity, high complexity products used in various sectors of the medical industry. Including but not limited to; bone screws, bone screw extractors, blood transfusion pump shafts, bone anchors, and a multitude of other devices used in the surgical field.
Our Swiss CNC screw machines are for more advanced in comparison to conventional lathes. A conventional lathe cannot produce the parts Stone Medical’s Swiss CNC screw machines can. In a Swiss-type screw machine, the headstock contains a component (collet) that clamps the material. The material is then fed through a guide bushing, usually made of carbide, which is custom-adjusted to each project—loose enough so the material can slide smoothly through it, but tight enough to keep the material from flexing away from the cutting tool.
This guide bushing is what separates Swiss CNC screw machines from conventional lathes. It allows the machines to maintain very tight tolerances in relation to part diameter—even over long lengths—a plus or minus .0001″ kind of precision. That is why Swiss CNC screw machines are vital to creating the various categories of parts required by today’s medical device industry.
Stone Medical offers quality, accurate machining of stainless and cold rolled steels, brass, plastics, aluminum, copper, nickel alloys, and precious metals. Our most used material is 303 stainless steel.
